Year of World Cup.  The attentions of all will be concentrated in an only country. Supporting of all the places of the world, will be joined around its game.

It is difficult to explain the relation of Brazil with the World Cup, a country where, this sport, is very to the front of all the others, in the popular preference.  Each Cup, the main award of the world-wide soccer, has a love story and hate story with the Brazilians.  

It is necessary, for example, to know the tragedies of  Maracanã (1950) and the Sarriá (1982), of the 24 years without award (1970 - 1994), of the rivalries with South-American countries (mainly Argentina) among others things.

But, starting to explain this, I will tell two similar cases, one of them is real. 

The first case happened in 1994, few days after the end of the U.S.A Cup. In Montevidéu, Uruguay, there is a dedicated monument to the conquest of the Cup of 1950 (that one of the tragedy of the Maracanã).  So, this day, this monument appeared graffitated with a registration ‘It is four times champion’,  simple, as a quiet mentioning on the fouth award conquered for Brazil that year.
Yes, graffitis are condemnable, as well as all kinds of vandalism, but that it washed the soul of the Brazilians, principally that people that lived the tragedy of maracanã, is undeniable.

The second case, is an advertising of TV, transmitted at some moment after the Cup of 2002, when Brazil conquered its fifth award.  In it, a Brazilian couple, in vacation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, are in a hotel room arranging the things to come back to Brazil.  The woman talking to her husband about as the city is pretty, about the qualities, and other things, and her husband only agreeing patiently with a ‘yes, dear’.  When the woman asks if she lacks to something they make before to go out, he answers:  ‘Just one thing’, then, calmly he goes until the window of the bedroom, open it, look at the pretty sight of the city and, with all the force cries out:  ‘Five times championship’.  He closes the window calmly, and he says to his wife, now with a scared face:  ‘Okay, now we can go’.

These two cases give a light idea of as the World Cup is seen in Brazil, a case of national pride and as the rivalry of the South American is, at the same time, calm and amused.
